About Us

Based at Medway Park Leisure Centre, Rochester Life Saving Club is the remaining arm of the long-standing City of Rochester Swimming and Lifeguard Club. We are affiliated to the Royal Life Saving Society UK and are nationally represented, over decades of competition, in competition.

The club coaches share their training and knowledge in water safety with Rookie Lifeguards (aged 8 up) and further skills in the more advanced techniques of the Survive a Save awards program with the senior squad (aged 12 up). These members can train on for RLSS UK Qualifications, leading on to employment, or test their skills in Lifesaving Sport competition! Lifesaving Sport is a competitive sport that gives you the opportunity to compete with fellow lifesavers and grow your essential lifesaving skills.

Whilst the underpinning of the club’s intention is to transfer vital drowning prevention and lifesaving skills to people, young and old, to enjoy a lifetime of fun in, on and around water with a dynamic and engaging program delivered through…

  • ‘Dry side’ training: covering a variety of first aid skills and
  • ‘Wet side’ training: developing water situational awareness and recovery skills.

… we offer activities to challenge and enrich lives. This is NOT a swimming club, it is an opportunity to engage, make new friends, develop competence and confidence that will last a lifetime and maybe even save a life!

Rochester Lifesaving isn’t only pool based; we have links with Thanet and Sheppey regions to train and play (yes, it’s not all work) on the beach where pool training is transferred to the outside with beach and open water skills and fun competition. Who doesn’t like a day at the beach?!

The effects of Covid were felt by social and competition clubs of all types. City of Rochester Swimming and Lifeguard Club was no different. Sadly, the pandemic’s effects on people’s ability, and will, to mix in groups and the retirement of the longstanding, dedicated swim coach team meant that the swimming arm had to close the doors at the end of 2022.

The Life Saving arm is regrouping and growing! A strong coaching team with huge experience in the awards skills and Lifesaving Sport competition are training existing and new members. We want you to come along, join us, develop your personal and physical skills and be part of our new journey.

Session times for both the Rookie and Senior Squads are held on Thursday evenings 6.30pm – 8.30pm. A typical session will begin with land-based skills training, moving on to pool skills. All specialist equipment is provided by the club for these sessions, so the only essential equipment our members need bring are a swim costume, goggles and a towel!
